Philippe Carrese
Philippe Carrese was born in Marseilles in 1956. Enrolled in the prestigious film school l'IDHEC, he has been a film-maker since 1984, a novelist since 1994, and has always been multipurpose,( like a Swiss army knife from Marseilles...) After imagining and directing a few comedy series :Buzz, with Bruno Carette and Chantal Lauby (1983-1986), Bazaar, with the FM Gang (1991-1992) and directed a few big budget TV movies ( Conrad, The Sea Rajah), or cheap ones (Sales Continue During Construction, Cheese and Dessert), he takes to writing dark and funny novels in the early 90's. With his efficient style, his southern verve, he has developped in the span of fourteen novels the writing of chronicles in the shape of a thriller with a caustic wit ( The Floozy's Bal, SNCF Thriller Prize 2001, A beautiful Love Story, High School Students Prize 2004 ) (published by Fleuve Noir-Pocket). More recently, he has launched himself into a caustic series for teenagers « Marseilles--southern neighborhoods », relating the restless adventures of some Marseilles high-schoolers (Syros-Black Mouse Collection). The latest work The Garden of Delights has just been awarded the Marseilles Readers'Prize at the Writers' Square. For some time, he has come back to his first love, fiction film directing: Malaterra (2004), Liberata (2005), The Babel Arch (2008), winning several festival awards, and where he develops universes quite different from his novels'. Philippe Carrese works with the Radio France Creating Workshop to write detective scripts for series ( Noire Frequency) He is also part of the staff of directors of the best-selling series on French TV « Life is More Beautiful », of which he directed the first prime-time pilot. Besides that, he is also a composer of music (the original scores of Malaterra, The Babel Arch, and many more), and he is sometimes a newspaper cartoonist. Multi-purpose... A real Swiss army knife, but from Marseilles !
| June 1940. Three Alpine chasseurs during the war, three runaway italian communists, two Polish rabbis and three affluents from Luxembourg, all lost in the storm of the rout, and having to live together in the height fort across the French Italian border. A tragic-comedy in camera, these eleven characters will create a survival organization, experimenting the future European collaboration and also sensing its compulsory limits. Outside the bunker, the Italian artillery is out of control, an unsuspected danger threat them.
